Process Steps

BIS Application (Initial Documents)

BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards)

Prepare BIS application, English business registration, trademark registration, AIR permit, factory location map, raw material list, product specs, factory layout, equipment list, quality manager info, and other BIS documents.

BIS Inspector Factory Audit (Month 1~2)

BIS, Designated Laboratory

After BIS inspector is assigned: payment of BIS fees, factory inspection and sample collection (3 samples), testing at BIS-designated laboratory.

Foreign Factory Additional Steps (Month 3~4)

BIS FMCD, Overseas Laboratory

Arrange flights and visa for inspector, coordinate inspector schedule, conduct tests at local laboratory, ship samples to Indian laboratory. If factory exists in India and overseas, must apply through FMCD.

Certification Complete (Domestic 2~3M, Overseas 6~9M)

BIS

After passing sample tests: final document review, BIS certification approval and ISI logo issuance, contract with BIS department, and security deposit payment.
